Since May 2023, Dr. Harish Kumar has been serving as the Senior Consultant – Arthroplasty & Trauma at Rex Ortho Hospital, Coimbatore. He is a proud member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (MNAMS)—a prestigious honorary degree. Dr. Harish Kumar has presented cases at numerous national and international conferences, served as faculty at various forums and cadaveric workshops, and authored several research articles in internationally acclaimed journals. He has also contributed to high-volume, multicenter clinical studies and served as the Organizing Secretary for two National Arthroplasty conferences and several state-level conferences.. Dr.Harish Kumar has independently performed more than 1500 hip and knee arthroplasty procedures, including revision surgeries, in addition to managing numerous trauma cases.
He was awarded the Arthroplasty Gold medal @TNOACON 2024 for his scientific research work on Robotic total knee replacement.
Dr. M. Harish Kumar is a distinguished orthopedic surgeon with a specialization in arthroplasty and trauma. He earned his DNB in Orthopedic Surgery in December 2014 from Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre, Madurai—a 750-bedded multispecialty hospital and high-volume trauma center. During his tenure, he gained extensive experience managing simple and open fractures, including polytrauma cases, many of which required surgical intervention.
He continued his career in the "Trauma and Arthroscopy Unit" as an Assistant Professor at Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, Pondicherry, from January 2015 to May 2016. This 1500-bedded medical college provided him with the opportunity to adopt a conservative management approach for fractures wherever possible, achieving excellent functional outcomes for patients.
In 2016-17, Dr. Harish Kumar completed his prestigious "Fellowship in Arthroplasty" at Ganga Medical Centre, Coimbatore, a 450-bedded exclusive orthopedic center. There, he was exposed to over 450 hip and knee joint replacement procedures, including complex primary arthroplasties, revision surgeries, and periprosthetic fracture and Periprosthetic joint infection management.
From July 2017 to June 2022, he served as Senior Registrar and later as Consultant in Arthroplasty and Trauma at Rex Ortho Hospital, Coimbatore—a 120-bedded exclusive orthopedic center with an annual consultation volume of approximately 43,000 patients and 5400 surgeries
Subsequently, he held the position of Consultant – Arthroplasty & Trauma at Preethi Hospitals, Madurai, between June 2022 and April 2023. In this role, he managed the hip and knee arthroplasty unit while also overseeing complex fractures and polytrauma cases.
