THESIS
Using clear criteria, twenty-four children with ’ definite abuse ’ having thirty-three long bone fractures were studied for the site and pattern of fracture. Single long bone fracture was common 21(87.5%), and femoralfracturewasthecommonest14(42.4%).The metaphyseal and diaphyseal fractures were of equal distribution. The diaphyseal fractures were predominantly middle third 11(61%) and of spiral type. The metaphyseal fractures were mostly in the distal end of a long bone 12 (80%). While going through the literature critically, it was evident that there were only few studies using definite criteria for patient selection to distinguish definite abusive femur fracture from definite accidental femur fracture. The present study has the largest comparison series of well-defined groups of fourteen femoral fractures from definite abuse and thirty-three
